Windows 8 - Overview

Version reviewed 8.1 on: 11 Jan 2015

With the commercial success of windows 7 platform over the past few years, here is yet another very impressive operating system from Microsoft. The latest to the windows generations, Windows 8 has already made a great positive remark on the IT industry. Like its predecessor, Windows 8 has also succeeded mostly in winning the hearts of a large number of audience and users across various nations around the globe. Designed and developed by Microsoft Corporation, Windows 8 is the latest addition to the Windows line of operating systems. Like all its previous versions, Windows 8 too displays numerous changes in its interface and design and attracts users from different backgrounds and workplaces. Ever since its annoyance, people have been patiently waiting to get their hands on the much anticipated operating system and try on its brand new features it had been boasting about. Windows 8 features a new and improved interface with various visual and performance enhancements and advanced hardware acceleration.

Microsoft claims that Windows 8 has been created to achieve the sole purpose of exhilarating user experience through eye-catching and requirement specific features that shall surpass all expectations to the maximum. While Microsoft has successfully kept their promise delivering a never before operating system, they have also raised competition for Android and iOS with their mobile compatible versions. A new and improved start screen is the first and most attractive feature of Windows 8. The start screen featured in windows 8 replaces the traditional start menu from its previous versions. The start screen features a set of tile like menus which stand for various applications capable of running in the background while affecting the overall performance little. The chief highlight of this is that it brings together various applications together on our home screen without having to navigate through various folders, thereby enabling ease of access and utility.

The second enhancement is in system performance and speed. Talking about speed, the first most notable entity is switching on and off process. Windows 8 delivers the promise of fast shut down and switch on, keeping the impatient thoroughly satisfied. Like the name, 8 seconds is what it takes to shut down and switch on the system and it mostly remains confined to this time limit. There have also been improvisations in the task manager and copy screen. Here, in windows 8, copy and paste processes can be paused and resumed according to user specifications thus promoting convenience and efficiency. Windows 8 features a similar desktop as that to windows 7 and almost compares equally with the explorer of its predecessor.

The aero and transparency feature that had pertained in windows 7 has been removed from windows 8 in order to showcase a much faster and efficient operating system. Although this has downhearted many of the users, they are still pretty much relieved by its user experience. While windows 8 delivers optimum and best experience on a touch interface, its speed and performance manages to satisfy the non-touch users. Windows 8 is certainly the next best thing from Microsoft Corporation and has succeeded in stealing the market from its various existing competitors.

Although a large majority of users tag along with the critics and agree that Windows 8 is no big deal, there are still many who cling to the positive side of the operating system. Even when people feel that Windows 8 has not lived up to the desired expectation and potential like its grant predecessor Windows 7, there is quite a vast community of people who are satisfied with the way Microsoft has presented its new operating system.
